Comparing Mental Health Solutions: A Research Review

After 32 years of personal experience and extensive research, I've analyzed the three major approaches to mental health available to South Africans: psychiatry, psychology, and Dianetics. This page presents my independent findings based on evidence of long-term recovery, cost-effectiveness, and personal causative outcomes.

32 Years Drug-Free Recovery

Tony Peacock is the Founder of HelpAnxiety.co.za and Infrastructure Architect at LinkDaddy LLC. With 32 years of personal drug-free recovery, he conducts independent research on mental health solutions for South Africans, examining psychiatric, psychological, traditional healing, faith-based, and alternative approaches through evidence-based analysis and transparent comparison.

The Research Framework

This comparison is based on my personal 32-year journey from addiction and dependency to drug-free recovery and personal causation. I grew up in a traditional Church of England family in Brisbane, Australia, but that didn't protect me from marijuana addiction, alcohol abuse, and a desperate search for answers through tarot cards, clairvoyants, astrology, and numerology.

At 25, I discovered Dianetics and Scientology. That discovery changed everything. Over the past three decades, I haven't just overcome my addictions—I've built a life of purpose and contribution. I stopped looking outside myself for answers and became causative over my own life.

Since moving to South Africa in 2022, I've invested significantly in researching mental health solutions available to South Africans. My mission is simple: help the able become more able. This research compares three major approaches based on criteria that matter for long-term success.

Research Methodology

Evaluation Criteria

  • Evidence of Long-term Recovery: Does the approach lead to permanent resolution of mental health challenges, or does it require ongoing management?
  • Cost-Effectiveness: What is the total financial investment required to achieve lasting results?
  • Personal Causative Outcomes: Does the approach make you more able and causative over your life, or does it keep you dependent on external solutions?

The Evidence: Side-by-Side Comparison

CriteriaPsychiatryPsychologyDianetics
Long-term Recovery Evidence
Symptom management, not resolution. Most psychiatric medications require lifelong use.

Antidepressants, antipsychotics, and mood stabilizers address symptoms but don't resolve underlying causes. Discontinuation often leads to relapse.

Moderate improvement. Therapy helps develop coping strategies but may require ongoing sessions.

CBT, psychotherapy, and talk therapy can improve quality of life but often require maintenance sessions to prevent relapse.

Permanent resolution. Addresses the source of mental distress, not just symptoms.

Dianetics auditing locates and resolves the root cause of unwanted emotions and psychosomatic conditions. Once addressed, results are permanent.

Cost-Effectiveness
High lifetime cost. Medication + ongoing consultations.

Estimated lifetime cost: R 150,000 - R 500,000+ (medication, psychiatrist visits, hospitalizations)

Moderate to high cost. Ongoing therapy sessions required.

Estimated cost: R 50,000 - R 200,000+ (weekly or monthly sessions over years)

One-time investment. No ongoing costs after completion.

Estimated cost: R 1,900 - R 15,000 (book + professional auditing to Clear state, depending on individual case)

Personal Causative Outcomes
Creates dependency. You remain reliant on medication and medical professionals.

Psychiatric treatment positions you as a passive recipient of chemical intervention. You're told your brain is broken and needs lifelong medication.

Moderate empowerment. Develops coping skills but may maintain therapist dependency.

Therapy can help you understand your patterns and develop healthier responses, but ongoing sessions may be needed to maintain progress.

Maximum causation. You become more able and self-determined.

Dianetics makes you causative over your own mind and life. You gain abilities, confidence, and self-determinism. You're no longer looking outside yourself for answers.

The Verdict: Why Dianetics Was My Final Solution

After 32 years of drug-free recovery and personal growth through Dianetics, I can confidently say it was the only approach that addressed the source of my mental distress, not just the symptoms. Psychiatry offered me pills that numbed my pain but didn't resolve it. Psychology helped me understand my patterns but didn't give me the tools to permanently change them.

Dianetics gave me something fundamentally different: causation over my own mind and life. I stopped being a victim of my past and became the author of my future. I didn't just manage my addiction—I eliminated the underlying cause and built a life of purpose and contribution.

The "Help the Able Become More Able" Mission

My mission is simple: help the able become more able. You can't build a great civilization using approaches that keep people dependent. You need technology that makes people causative.

That's why I created this website—to share my research with fellow South Africans who refuse to settle for symptom management and lifelong dependency. If you're looking for a solution that makes you more able, not just "less broken," Dianetics is worth investigating.

What This Means for You

If you're currently on psychiatric medication or in ongoing therapy, I'm not telling you to stop. That's a decision you must make with your healthcare provider. What I am saying is that there's another option—one that addresses the root cause and makes you causative over your own life.

Dianetics isn't for everyone. It requires active participation, honesty, and a willingness to confront the source of your distress. But if you're ready to become more able—not just "less broken"—it's the most effective technology I've found in 32 years of searching.
